Bhaavya Roy-What are the biggest technical challenges you face during high-pressure Bollywood shoots?

Bhaavya Roy:
"High-pressure Bollywood shoots come with their own unique rhythm—fast, demanding, and with very little room for error. One of the biggest technical challenges I face is managing time constraints. Celebrities often have packed schedules, which means I sometimes have just 10–15 minutes to capture an entire editorial concept. That’s where preparation and precision become non-negotiable.

Another major factor is lighting control, especially on location. Whether I’m shooting in harsh sunlight, a crowded film set, or an unpredictable outdoor space, I have to adapt instantly. I carry a modular lighting setup—portable strobes, reflectors, and continuous lights—so I can adjust based on the conditions, but even then, speed and instinct matter.

There’s also the challenge of tethered shooting and real-time client feedback. On commercial or magazine shoots, there are often 10 people looking at the screen—stylists, managers, brand reps—all with opinions. Balancing technical focus with creative vision while addressing constant feedback can be intense. You need to remain calm, stay confident in your craft, and trust your instincts.

Then there’s the pressure of perfection—the expectation that every image must be flawless because it’s going to be seen by millions. That can make even a small technical hiccup feel magnified. I’ve learned to triple-check my gear, always have backups, and most importantly, remain composed. My team and I plan everything from file formats to backup drives, because in high-stakes shoots, every detail counts.

But honestly, I thrive on that energy. The pressure pushes me to be sharper, faster, and more creative. That’s what makes Bollywood photography so thrilling—it’s not just about beauty, it’s about being brilliant under pressure. READ MORE
