  Bhaavya Roy : One of the most important aspects of my work as a photographer is creating a safe, empowering space for the model—especially when they’re new or feeling nervous. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that technical skills are only half the equation. The other half is emotional intelligence. When a model steps onto a set, particularly if it’s their first time, there’s a natural vulnerability in front of the camera. I never take that lightly. The first thing I do is take a few minutes to connect on a human level before I even lift the camera. I introduce myself, talk about the vision for the shoot, and encourage them to share anything they might be feeling anxious about. I want them to feel seen—not just as a subject, but as a collaborator. Communication is everything.
